Drinking water fluoride and child dental caries in Dashtestan, Iran
The aim of this study was to determine whether a relationship exists between
the groundwater fluoride (F) concentration and dental caries in children living in the
Dashtestan area of the Bushehr Province in Iran. Except for some very small villages, 14
villages in Dashtestan with only a groundwater source and essentially the same socio-
economic living standards and nutritional conditions were surveyed. All of the children in
each village in the ages 6–11 were sampled for a total of 2340 in all villages. F levels in ...

Evaluating the effectiveness of a hybrid sorbent resin in removing fluoride from water
In some regions of the world, the concentration of fluoride in groundwater is high. To reduce the amount of fluoride to acceptable drinking water standard, it is highly recommended to treat the water. Fluoride adsorption in aqueous solution by a hybrid resin was studied in this research because of its functional groups likeness with goethite. Kinetic data showed that F adsorption was rapid in the beginning and maximum uptake occurred in within 10 min and equilibrium reached within 100 min. The experimental results showed that fluoride adsorption was influenced by pH of solution and optimum operating pH was in the range of 3 to 5.5. Langmuir model was applicable to the present study and F ions were exchanged with hydroxide ions in nano-scaled structure on the surface of sorbent.

Correlation of fluoride with some inorganic constituents in groundwater of Dashtestan, Iran
To determine the relationship of the previously measured fluoride (F) content to
other inorganic constituents in groundwater samples from 14 different villages in the
Dashtestan area of Bushehr Province, Iran, the levels of various inorganic constituents in the
water such as pH, noncarbonate hardness, carbonate hardness, total hardness, alkalinity, Cl–
, SO4 2–, NO3–, Ca2+, and Mg2+ were determined. From correlation analysis, F was found
to be positively related to total hardness, noncarbonate hardness, SO4 2–, Ca2+, and ...

Heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Ni and Pb) content in two fish species of Persian Gulf in Bushehr Port, Iran
Heavy metal (HMs) pollution of aquatic environment has become a great concern in recent years. In this study, cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni) and lead (Pb) levels were determined in muscle and skin of two important consumed fishes (Indo-Pacific king mackerel and Tigertooth croaker) in Bushehr Province in the Southwestern of Iran. Heavy metal concentrations were analyzed by using inductively coupled plasma (ICP). The mean contents of metal, expressed in mg/kg wet weight, varied from 0.17 to 0.26 for Cd, 1.25 to 1.84 for Cu, 0.6 to 0.84 for Ni and 0.31 to 0.7 for Pb. Results showed that the highest and lowest contents of heavy metals in muscle and skin of both fish samples were related to Cu and Cd concentration, respectively, and heavy metal contents in both skin fish samples and muscle of Tigertooth croaker were found to decrease in sequence as Cu>Pb>Ni>Cd.

Hazardous Organic Compounds in Groundwater Near Tehran Automobile Industry
Potential of groundwater contamination by tri- chloroethylene (TCE) and other volatile organic com- pounds VOCs near car industry was conducted in this study. TCE, PCE, toluene, xylene, dichloromethane, cyclohexane, n-hexane and n-pentane were detected in all groundwaters. Mean TCE levels in groundwater ranged from 124.37 to 1,035.9 lgL -1 with maximum level of 1,345.7 lgL -1. Due to the data obtained from conventional wastewater treatment in car factory the TCE removal efficiency was only 24 percent which necessitates the TCE removal by advanced treatment processes before the use of well water.

Fluoride concentrations of bottled drinking water available in Bushehr, Iran
The fluoride (F) concentrations in 10 brands of bottled drinking water sold in
Bushehr, Iran were determined and compared with the values on the labels. The mean F
content of the samples was 0.18 mg/L with a range of 0.00 to 0.37 mg/L. Keywords: Bottled
water; Bushehr, Iran; Fluoride in bottled water.

FLUORIDE IN SKIN AND MUSCLE OF TWO COMMERCIAL SPECIES OF FISH HARVESTED OFF THE BUSHEHR SHORES OF THE PERSIAN GULF
SUMMARY: This study reports measurement of the fluoride (F) content of the skin and
muscle tissues of Indo-Pacific king mackerel (Scomberomorus guttatus) and tiger tooth
croaker fish (Otolithes ruber) harvested commercially off the Bushehr shores of the Persian
Gulf. By a standard diffusion procedure, the mean F concentration in the soft tissues of these
two species of fish was determined to range from 5.56 to 6.09 mg/kg wet weight in the skin
and 5.78 to 6.14 mg/kg wet weight in the muscles. At these concentrations, the total F ...

Transformation efficiency and formation of transformation products during photochemical degradation of TCE and PCE at micromolar concentrations
Trichloroethene and tetrachloroethene are the most common
pollutants in groundwater and two of the priority pollutants listed by the US Environmental
Protection Agency. In previous studies on TCE and PCE photolysis and photochemical
degradation, concentration ranges exceeding environmental levels by far with millimolar
concentrations of TCE and PCE have been used, and it is not clear if the obtained results
can be used to explain the degradation of these contaminants at more realistic ...

Chlamydia pneumoniae and Helicobacter pylori IgG seropositivities are not predictors of osteoporosis-associated bone loss: a prospective cohort study
The potential link between infection with Chlamydia pneumoniae or Helicobacter
pylori and osteoporosis has not been investigated in population-based longitudinal studies.
A total of 250 healthy postmenopausal women who participated in a prospective cohort
study were evaluated for IgG antibodies directed against C. pneumoniae and H. p ylori,
osteoprotegerin (OPG), the receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B ligand (RANKL),
CrossLaps, and osteocalcin. Bone mineral density (BMD) was measured at the femoral ...

The Effect of Some Physical and Chemical Parameters on Regrowth of Aeromonas Bacterium and Heterotrophic Bacteria in Isfahan Drinking Water System
Aeromonas is one the gram–negative, non spor–formating rod shaping,
facultatively anaerobic and opportunistic bactria that can cause systematic infections, leision
and diarrhoea in human. Fairly high bactrial population in distribution system is not only of
concern because of affecting consumer health but also it makes it difficult to enumerate
coliform bacterium indicator. So, the relationships between aeromonas and heterotrophic
bacteria growth with pH, temperature, turbidity, free residual cholornie and DO were ...

Bacterial Quality of Drinking Water in Bushehr Intercity Buses in 2010
This study is a cross-sectional study. By considering similar studies,
95% confidence interval and based on the samples size formula for tradition of proportion,
80 buses from 122 buses that entered Bushehr Passenger Depot from other cities or exited it
were randomly selected. Over a three-month period, samples were taken from drinking
water in these buses. Temperature, pH, residual chlorine, total coliform (TC), and fecal
coliform (E. coli) in each sample were measured in accordance with the standard method. ...
